Rising in Corktown, the development draws inspiration from Hamilton’s rich arts and entrepreneurial culture

(Hamilton, ON) – Nearly a year after acquiring 800 acres of industrial land and buildings from Stelco Inc, in Hamilton, Slate Asset Management (Slate) is officially launching its first condominium project in the Steel City. Corktown is Slate’s latest investment in Hamilton introducing an initial 372 condominium suites alongside previously announced plans to develop the Stelco lands into a world-class industrial park with the potential to create up to 23,000 new jobs across the GTHA and inject up to $3.8 billion into Ontario’s economy.A 5-minute walk to the Hamilton GO station, Corktown is perfect for GTA commuters and Hamilton locals. The residential building is conveniently close to the McMaster campus and Hamilton’s incredible nature trails.

Award-winning developer Slate Asset Management continues to raise the standard for outstanding design quality and superior value.  Corktown’s efficient, design-forward suites and best-in-class amenity offering set this projectabove the rest. Corktown will be an anchor to the already growing Hamilton.

Nestled between the City’s downtown core and the Niagara escarpment, the new community will introduce a 27-storey tower
and a 14-storey mid-rise building with retail at grade. Sales begin for the Corktown East tower in Spring 2023.

CORE Architects is steering the architectural design for the project, which borrows its design from traditional industrial facades while imposing modern urbanism onto the site. Brick from the existing buildings on site will be reintroduced to the mid-rise development, a nod to the bricklayers and Irish past of the Corktown area.

“Corktown is a bridge between two languages – Hamilton’s industrial history and its growing identity as a modern, urban city,” says Deni Poletti, Principal, CORE Architects. “The design is intended to pick up on the natural characteristics of Hamilton –
from the red-brick houses on the ground level to modern high rises in the downtown. We are using the same grid pattern and language across both buildings to create a cohesive expression while differentiating them with unique palettes and materials.”

Mason Studio was brought on to lead the interior design of Corktown, taking inspiration from Hamilton’s industrial identity
using steel, aluminum, and concrete finishes with a refined application to offer a sense of warmth and character.  With function, flexibility and purposeful design at the forefront, the amenities are designed to capture Hamilton’s sense of community and inject an entrepreneurial spirit into the building. For instance, large art displays have been incorporated into the lobby to facilitate pop activations by local artists. A rooftop terrace on the 27th floor will offer unmatched views of Lake Ontario and the Niagara
Escarpment, while other amenities include a fitness centre, indoor and outdoor social lounges, and an outdoor pool.
“Our design is intended to celebrate Hamilton’s storied past and the contagious entrepreneurship of today,” says Stanley Sun,
Partner, Mason Studio. “Hamilton has a real sense of community; this familiarity and comradery inspired the shared spaces of
Corktown East. We want people to be proud to live at Corktown, and we want them to be able to celebrate the city they call home.
Something as a simple as incorporating displays featuring local products in the lobby, turns what can be a passive space into an
opportunity for civic pride.”

Residents of the community will be surrounded by a variety of neighbourhood amenities, including parks and nature trails, St.
Joseph’s Hospital and McMaster University, as well as historic pubs, breweries, high-end restaurants and local markets. The
Hamilton GO Centre, which offers an all day, two-way service to Toronto, is a 5-minute walk from Corktown. Access to Highway 403 and the QEW is just a 10-minute drive.

Corktown East is a 27-storey residential tower offering studios, one bedroom, one plus den, two bedroom and two plus den suites ranging from 340 sq. ft. to 851 sq. ft. Prices start from the $300s.
